Viewing MMWR using Acrobat* Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) is now available electronically in Adobe Acrobat .PDF file format. To view MMWR documents using Adobe Acrobat software, a copy of Acrobat Reader or Exchange is required. Consult your local software dealer to purchase Adobe Acrobat Reader or Exchange. Documentation for installation and operating requirements of Acrobat software are included with the software. (See system requirements, below.) Readers & Exchanges are available for computers that use DOS, Macintosh, Unix, and Windows operating systems -- MMWR in .PDF format can be viewed on any of those systems. System Requirements for Reader & Exchange Macintosh Macintosh Plus, SE, Classic, LC, II, PowerBook, Centris or Quadra (II, PowerBook, Centris, or Quadra recommended) Macintosh system software version 6.0.5 or greater (version 7 or greater recommended) 2 MB of application RAM (4 MB recommeded) 800K or Apple SuperDrive floppy disk drive Windows 386- or 486-based personal computer (486 recommended) Microsoft Windows 3.1 4 MB of RAM (8 MB recommended) VGA, Super VGA or higher-resolution display adapter supported by Windows 3.1 1.44 MB 3.5" floppy disk drive Finding MMWR Issues MMWR .PDF files are named according to volume and issue number. For example, MM4301.PDF contains all pages for Volume 43, Number 1. Fonts MMWR is composed almost exclusively in the Adobe Univers typeface (PostScript Type 1 format). If your system has the Univers typeface in its environment, MMWR .PDF files will display and print using that typeface. If no Univers typeface exists on your system, Acrobat will substitute a similar font to display the document. All line endings and page breaks will reflect the original MMWR layout regardless of the typeface used to display the document. Graphics Most graphics (figures) in MMWR are in PostScript format. Textual elements appearing in MMWR figures are accessible through copying and pasting operations (i.e., they may be selected and copied to a clipboard). Printing Because .PDF files are PostScript-based, they can be printed on any PostScript device. There are no restrictions on printer output resolution of .PDF files. See the Acrobat installation documentation for printing to non-PostScript devices. *Use of trade names and commercial sources is for identification only and does not imply endorsement by the Public Health Service or the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
