Ditty is a toy. A fun toy.

It is intended to run on Linux, and takes advantage of Linux-specific
details, such as using ioctls on /dev/console to manipulate the
built-in speaker.

All software here is licensed for use, modification and redistribution
under the terms of the accompanying license (GPL), to be found in the
file COPYING. Distribution of this software without this file
will result in the immediate revocation of your right to use this
software.

Accompanying files named *.dit are files you may input into ditty.
These files are, as an exception, exempted from the LICENSE - I
release all rights to these, and they may be distributed as being in
the public domain. Distributions of this software need not include
these files - they are meant only for example.

Note: if you are not logged in directly to the console terminal while
using ditty, it will not have permission to manipulate your computer's
built-in speakers. Please see the man page for workarounds.

SUGGESTIONS FOR USE:

Some things that may make ditty fun to use are:
  - as sound-effects in a shell-script - especially to alert sysadmins
    when something is very wrong.
  - to make a wierd videogame-like noise-thingy whenever you log in
(via .bash_login), or logout (via .bash_logout).
  - (Other uses?)
